Congratulations to Lacey Griggs from the family department as she flies home following the August Iceland Challenge 2016. Lacey tackled 37 miles over 2 days over the toughest terrain in Iceland to raise vital funds for Parkinson’s UK. We are very proud of her achievements and inspired by her determination to complete the challenge despite numerous obstacles along the way.

Lacey was diagnosed with Parkinson ’s 5 years ago.  She decided to help increase the awareness of Parkinson ’s and raise vital funds for research and development.

Lacey commented: “7 months ago I started this adventure – which turned out to be not just a physical challenge.  The range of skills, personal strength, determination and practical training has certainly challenged me!  There have been many tears, of frustration and emotion!  I’ve been overwhelmed on many occasions by the warmth and generosity of both anonymous donators and people in my life who in just about 6 months have raised OVER £5,000 for Parkinson ‘s.  Amazing!!!”

She continued “The trekking terrain was both breath taking and punishing and I am just getting to accept that I didn’t fail because I didn’t finish the total course.  I still did 37 tough miles!  It was an amazing few days and made even better by the people I met – the tour of the capital and reviving Blue Lagoon – an absolute heavenly way to finish a great trip !”

Parkinson ’s UK – the support and research charity – is passionate about finding a cure and improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson ’s.

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson ’s UK, said: “As the UK’s Parkinson ’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. But our work is totally dependent on donations. We are incredibly grateful to Lacey, for her support and I hope her success will encourage others to sign up for an event in the future.”
