Whilst golf is a relatively safe sport compared to some contact sports like rugby and football, a golf ball, small as it is, can cause considerable accidents and damage. Although the likelihood of being struck by a golf ball is relatively low, a small percentage of ball strikes do cause serious and life-threatening injuries.

Common causes of injuries associated with golf include:

Being hit by a golf ball

Being struck by a swinging golf club

A malfunction in a golf buggy, causing it to stop very suddenly

Negligent driving of a golf buggy

Badly maintained greens causing golfers to trip or fall,

If someone is injured whilst playing or watching a game of golf or even while passing a golf course, they may be able to claim compensation if their injury was caused by the negligence of someone else. In a situation where someone is hit by a golf ball, even if the person who hits the ball shouts ‘fore’ after they have hit it the injured party may still be able to bring a compensation claim.

If a personal injury is sustained due to negligent driving of a golf buggy, the passengers may be able to bring a compensation claim against the driver. If you are tasked with driving a golf buggy, take care as people can be seriously injured if a golf buggy rolls over.

So, whilst golf is a fantastic sport providing fresh air, exercise and physical and intellectual challenges for the participants, beware of potential accidents.
